Online schooling is becoming a top priority to deployed armed forces.

“Power is knowledge. If, while in the military a Marine takes advantage of education opportunities, they will become more competitive in their military occupation forte and in the civilian workforce,” says Gunnery Sgt. Anthony Forbes.

The military will help soldiers afford school. Forbes completed 71 credits while enlisted and is working towards a degree in human resources.

“With the way things are going in Iraq, there is no excuse why every Marine cannot take at least one course while here,” says Master Sgt. James Emch. “If they want to improve on themselves and situate themselves up for sucess, they should take the opportunity.”

Through programs like Tuition Assistance, the Montgomery GI Bill, and the Marine Corpse College Fund, deployed militia can obtain up to 100 percent of their schooling costs paid for by the government.

“The best time for Marines to pursue their education is not when they graduate from the Corps. It’s while they are still in it,” says an college specialist at Camp Courtney in Japan.

A buddy said he should visit ClassesandCareers.com, a free online educational information resource. Users can fill out a form and within minutes become connected to a live education advisor.

"I went to the Web site and told them about my goals," Sergeant John Noble says. "Not long after, an advisor called me and helped me find a nice, flexible online schooling program. I can do lectures and homework through my time off."

Noble is now more than halfway through his bachelors in finance. "It has been exceedingly convenient for me to continue my education while I’m enlisted,” Noble said. “I should finish right before I am released and will be able to go directly into a Masters Program.”
