Build Business Through Export-Import of Spain's Goods and Services

By: Gen Wright

Spain is a country with a rich history of economic highs and lows and is also a fantastic source for the future of your business.

But tread carefully.

Along with the usual exporting and importing concerns, such as finding worthwhile product and establishing trustworthy contacts and business relationships, you should also take into consideration the economic cycles. While these are often different depending on the country, current crises have been on a global scale, and virtually unavoidable for most countries.

Spain is no exception.

Since Spain was welcomed into the United Nations in 1955, they have demonstrated an eagerness to join in economic trade with allies across the world, being admitted to the World Bank just three short years later. Growth has been a cornerstone.

Emerging from the Spanish Civil War as leader of the nation, Francisco Franco led Spain through isolation to economic prosperity until his death in 1975. From roughly the time of Spain's acceptance into the global community, the Spanish economy was booming.

The Eighties were no different.

In fact, it was not until the recession of the early 1990's that growth slowed down for the country, taking less than a decade before it got back on its feet.

Unfortunately, the current crisis has reminded traders from every country what the slow periods were like. Spain is enduring the same slowdown that can be found in most every country, but if past indicators can be trusted, it is destined to rise again. As a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Spain's economic fate is likely to trend to the same standards of the rest of the world. Thusly, if we can believe what top economists are saying about an end to the recession before the end of 2009, the once strong Spanish economy will inevitably rise again.

Before that happens, it would be a good time to start considering how you can use the power of importing and exporting goods and services from Spain for the edification of your business.

Spain Export-Import Opportunities

In Spain, agriculture plays a huge role in the economy. Therefore, you may wish to place agricultural products in the spotlight. Domestically, Spain grows grain, veggies, olives, grapes, sugar beets, citrus, poultry, pork, and dairy products, to name a few. Do you have a product that can assist farmers in yielding greater produce? It may be an excellent time to export.

There is always a niche for sports and entertainment memorabilia from other countries. Maybe a specialized card game that is fast and easy to learn? Fishing equipment or musical instruments? Each culture has something unique to offer the rest of the world. Find something in your field of interest, and incorporate it in your catalog. Just make sure you have researched the legal expectations for importing goods into your country before you act.

Remember, importing and exporting are duplicitous acts. Get good at one, and it becomes easier to succeed at the other. If it helps you, start by focusing on one area. Study the culture. Make connections to your own. Choose a path, and market it wisely.
