If you have an online business of any type, you need an effective way to get traffic to your website. The more traffic you have, the more sales you will generate. In my opinion, the easiest and fastest way to get traffic to your site is to utilize Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. Within a few short minutes, you can have access to millions of worldwide internet users. PPC advertising allows you to write ads (120 words in length) that are displayed on search engines anytime someone does an internet search for a specific keyword. For instance, if you go to Google right now and do a search for "work from home" you will get millions of results. In the middle of the screen, you will see the search results. On the top, right side, and bottom of the screen, you will see ads. These are PPC ads. When you click on one of these ads, you will be redirected to the advertiser's website. What I like about Pay-Per-Click is a couple things. First of all, you only advertise to your target market. You get to write your own ads and select which keywords will display your ads. In other words, your ad only appears when someone searches for words that you choose. In traditional advertising, you usually waste money marketing to people outside of your target market. If you advertise your business in a traditional newspaper you are advertising to all readers. Most readers will not be interested in your offer and will not respond to your ad. With Pay-Per-Click, you only advertise to your target market and only pay when someone clicks on your ad. Another great thing about Pay-Per-Click is your ability to measure your effectiveness. PPC advertising lets you see your "conversion metrics." You can easily see how many people visited your website, how many of those people joined your newsletter and how many purchased a product. Therefore, you will know how much it costs to generate a lead and what the value of that lead is to your business. Once you know these metrics, you can optimize your PPC campaign to ensure you receive a handsome ROI (Return-On-Investment) for each advertising dollar spent. The secret to PPC success is to start with one advertising company. Stick with that company until you become effective and efficient with PPC. The leading PPC companies include Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL. I recommend starting with Google first because it is the largest. Before you dive into PPC advertising, I recommend visiting your local library or bookstore and picking up a couple of books about PPC advertising. One of my favorite books on the subject is "The Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords" by Perry Marshall. Another option is to hire someone to help you with your marketing campaign. For a minimal investment, you can hire someone to create and optimize a campaign for you. Do your research, ask for references and make sure you feel comfortable with the person. Don't sign a long-term contract. Evaluate their performance for one month. If your are unhappy with the results, find someone else to work with.
