I get a lot of calls from people looking for wallpaper murals for their baby room. Most of the time they want cartoon characters and the like, or they are working on a tight budget. I try and talk then into something more creative than existing characters (which are copyright protected anyway!) Murals are large scale paintings which are applied directly to walls, ceilings, and other large flat surfaces. They are probably the oldest human art form. They started out as a form of communication back in the cave days and became a form of home décor around the turn of the century. A wide variety of artistic styles are used in mural painting, but all of them incorporate a large sense of scale, and the ability to portray a something incredibly personalized or customized and make it look real. It’s much more creative to tell people who call looking for wallpaper murals for their baby’s room that they can have something that is completely theirs, unique to their own family, by having a custom mural instead of something that everyone and their brother has! Nursery wall murals have really grown in popularity over the last decade and it’s quite a business. Interior designers, retailers, professional muralists, parents and grandparents are all getting their piece of the nursery mural phenomenon because of the freedom of expression in creating the child’s room. Murals are a perfect fit for nursery décor needs because of their inherent amount of customization and personalization. I don’t know what it is about babies but people just go crazy about them, especially when it comes to decorating their nurseries! Here are a few of the most popular themes for nursery murals I have encountered just in case you need a few ideas! Popular Nursery Wall Murals Themes Sky Design Cartoon characters Nursery rhyme characters Biblical Inspirations: Noah and the Ark, Joseph tending sheep, Jonah and the Whale Sheep Bears Your own family pets Your favorite vacation spot Your favorite sport If there heart is set on simply buying something pre-made, then there are tons of choices out there, and they don’t have to spend an arm and a leg. Check out sites like http://muralsuperstore.com/, or http://www.muralsyourway.com/. Sometimes you can even go to Lowe’s or The Home Depot and check their wallpaper books for murals. Baby nursery murals are just one more way that you can customize any nursery theme. Purchase a wallpaper mural from a nearby store or see what you can find online, paint a mural by hand or see about using nursery stickers, cut outs and decals that you can arrange on the nursery walls to make a lovely display. If you choose not to design your own nursery mural to decorate your nursery walls there are muralists (like me) that specialize in murals and can create a nursery mural and / or murals for older kids as well to get the effect that you want. PS. I want to throw in a little tip that I have learned along the way of painting murals all these years. As it relates to nursery murals, you may want to think about choosing a nursery wall mural that will easily transition from infant to toddler years so you can get the most out of your mural value.
