NATO on Russia: Enemy or the next alliance?

By: dexharris

Russia was badly devastated after the Cold War. Alliance of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was in war with Russia which is part of the Soviet Republics during the Cold War era.

Apparently, the old enemies tied an agreement as Russia tried to venture with other NATO’s alliance for the protection of the endangering issues of US’s increasing Terrorism problem.

The agreement between Russia and NATO is called “Partnership for Peace” which is a project made by the organization to other rival countries to bring trust among them. However the partnership doesn’t entail Russia to be member and declared alliance of NATO.

Advantage of the Unity
-The peace partnership agreement between Russia and NATO brought different benefits to the NATO states. First NATO is known to destroy Terrorism and back up their members or countries that made agreements with them to avenge the country.
-The country, Russia, and the whole continent of Europe will remain on its Post-Cold War security.
-These are the following advantages that Russia received after the signing of the partnership: “combating terrorism, crisis management, non-proliferation, arms control, theater missile defense, and search and rescue at sea, mil-mil cooperation and defense reform, civil emergency planning, and new threats and challenges”.
-Russia, after the ten year strategic partnership with the organization, tried to construct a useful democratic state, transformed into an independent society, and a wealthy economy.

Disadvantages of the Unity
-Russia, a Soviet Republic, had good relationship with the West. Some sees the peace partnership as a disadvantage for Russia.
-According to some analyst, the plan of NATO to further expand eastward will risk the connection of Russia—“the aggressive and resurgent”—and the West for other countries in Europe.
-With the two side banging Russia side by side, the country remained on its middle game and not on either side of two strong warriors—NATO and the West.
-A continuous military inclination is expected due to the loss of nuclear defense weapon which most of their war depends on.

Standing between two warriors in shield: Should Russia enter the alliance and be a member of NATO or release and continue good relations with the West?
