Let's face it; there are loads of TV shows that can be watched on the telly nowadays, anything from people trying to survive in the jungles somewhere, to girls trying to outdo each other in hopes of becoming the next big thing in fashion. But won't it be more interesting to find out who tops the ratings poll and find out which of these shows have people clamoring for more? Well, ladies in gents, I have just the thing. According to tvguide.co.uk, the most watched TV show in the UK is Amazon with Bruce Parry. In this series, Bruce Parry the former member of the British Royal Marine travels 6,000 km down the Amazon River. He would then meet and live with the tribe, illegal miners, loggers and coca growers the whole time he is there. During this journey, Parry would either travel by boat, a light aircraft or by foot. Sounds interesting, non? I suppose it is if you are the outdoorsy kind of person. If you aren't the kind of person who would ever dream of wandering around the Amazon then perhaps the 2nd highest rated series is for you. It is Joss Whedon's Firefly which is a personal favorite of mine. The TV series follows the crew of Serenity which is a "firefly class" spaceship; these 9 people look into the blackness of space and see 9 different things, as Joss Whedon described he crew himself. Set in the year 2517 a time wherein humans have arrived at a new star system which pretty much paints a good picture of what the series is like. Just imagine space cowboys, battleships and planet hopping galore. If space ships aren't your thing but still like the idea of action packed TV viewing then look no further than Burn Notice. Created by Matt Nix, this series follows Michael Westen a covert agent who finds himself "burned" or discredited by his own agency after returning from an assignment. We follow him as her tries to figure out who put out his burn notice and why. TV is for everyone and with that said; we all know that not everyone enjoys action packed shows. For people who like something a bit more toned down, Veronica Mars is the show for you. By now, most of us know who Veronica is. A smart talking, sassy high school student who also moonlights as a private investigator, however, Nancy Drew she isn't. The series is often compared to film noir, a genre popularized by Alfred Hitchcock, whilst effectively mixing high school drama with social commentary and off beat humor which makes the series even more appealing no matter the watcher's age group. In another series revolving around a fictional detective though of a different kind in comparison to Veronica Mars, we follow Cadfael a Benedictine monk at Shrewsbury Abbey in the English county of Shropshire. In this story we follow Cadfael as he works with the Sheriff Beringar as a medical examiner, a detective and diplomatic envoy. This series surely gives new light to the stereotypical idea of what a monk is or should be. Well, there you have it folks, just a few of the TV shows that have been reigning over UK's TV polls. Some might not be to your liking but, no matter, there is always something for every person on the telly. All you have to do is click on the remote and surf away.
