Ways to Flush Out Canker Sores

By: Peter hutch

Dilute one part hydrogen peroxide with one part water. Use a Q-tip to dab mixture on the canker sore. Next, dab a little milk of magnesia with a Q-tip onto the sore. Repeat two or three times a day.

There are a number of possible canker sore causes, but nothing is certain. Stress could be causing your canker sores. Eating crunchy foods or foods with sharp edges, like chips, and spicy foods can be the cause of canker sores as well. Even nutritional deficiencies have been attributed to recurring canker sores. Some professionals say that if you’re experiencing enough canker sore episodes, you should keep a dietary journal to help your doctor recognize a pattern, and form canker-free diet from that.

A canker sore is an open sore in the mouth. They can occur on your tongue, on your soft palate, inside your cheeks or lips, and at the base of your gums. Canker sores are very common and can occur at any age. They are also called aphthous ulcers.

The easiest home remedy is to apply hydrogen peroxide with a cotton swab on the canker sore (1 part hydrogen peroxide to 1 part water). Then dab a small amount of milk of magnesia on the canker sore 3-4 times a day. This is not only soothing, but it appears to help healing.

Another home remedy is to mix equal amounts of milk of magnesia and Benadryl Allergy liquid. Swish a teaspoonful of the mixture in your mouth for about 1 minute and then spit it out.

Pain from a canker sore generally lessens in a few days and the sores usually heal without treatment in about a week or two. If sores are large, painful, or persistent, your dentist may prescribe an antimicrobial mouth rinse, a corticosteroid ointment, or a prescription or nonprescription solution to reduce the pain and irritation.

Eat foods rich in vitamin B. Foods like whole grain and green leafy vegetables are good sources of vitamin B. Eat easily digestible foods, well cooked soft grains and light cooked vegetables. Eat yogurt daily. Active acidophilus in yogurt helps to heal and prevent the outbreak of canker sores. Avoid foods like coffee, citrus fruits and spices, as they may irritate your mouth. Spicy and acidic foods increase the pain; it is advisable to avoid them. Avoid hard foods like chips, wafers and nuts. Avoid diary products, salty foods, sweet foods, oily foods, and animal protein.

The term aphtha means ulcer; it has been used for many years to describe areas of ulceration on mucous membranes. Aphthous stomatitis is a condition which is characterized by recurrent discrete areas of ulceration which are almost always painful. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) can be distinguished from other diseases with similar-appearing oral lesions, such as certain viral exanthems or Herpes simplex, by their tendency to recur, and their multiplicity and chronicity. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is one of the most common oral conditions.

Aphthous ulcers, better known as canker sores, are painful and annoying. These sores are an ulcer and are often found in the mouth's lining. Although they are not contagious, they are painful and can become a recurring condition. Follow these steps to get rid of these painful sores.
